Granite Lake is a pristine, spring-fed lake located about 15 miles east of Keene, NH between the Towns of Nelson and Stoddard, NH.  The Granite Lake Association is a 50+ year-old nonprofit association comprised mostly of members who are homeowners with lake frontage on, or with lake rights to, Granite Lake.  While there is no public beach or swimming area, a boat launch is available.  Funding is obtained from membership dues and  donations.  For more information please see About Us.

The Stoddard Selectn recently voted to submit a special warrant to the May Town Meeting for an engineering study of its lake roads, including Granite Lake.

GLA received a $50,000 cash grant from NH Department of Environmental Services early in 2008 for the preparation of a Granite Lake watershed study: first to identify and measure the primary sources of threats to lake water quality and then to prepare a management plan to reduce the impact from such sources.  Sources to be examined include: logging;  water runoff from roads and driveways; road ditches without treatment areas; culverts without adequate headwalls; septic systems in areas with high water tables; and fertilizer use on lawns and gardens.  Choice of a qualified engineer consultant to quarterback source examinations and to prepare the plan should be completed in the next couple of months.  The grant requires GLA to provide about $33,000 toward the effort: in the combination of about $18,000 in volunteer service hours and of about $15,000 cash of which about $10,000 already has been contributed by member donations in response to the plea made at the August 2007 special meeting.
