Summary minutes of Granite Lake Association special meeting 8/26/07
A special meeting of GLA members was held August
26, 2007. The prime business was to consider recommending to the Granite Lake Village District ("GLVD") an expansion of its
purposes to include maintenance and construction of roads and waste treatment plants as well as the protection of water supply sources.
The concern of GLA Executive Committee was that funding to complete its application to the DES for a watershed study grant and any
implementation of a successful grant would greatly exceed GLA's fund raising ability from dues and contributions. GLVD raises
its funding requirements by real estate taxes. DES had already identified storm drains, culverts, road conditions and driveways
from which storm water runoff was adversely affecting lake quality.
Spirited discussion of the water quality of the lake, especially
in view of the cyanobacteria infestation and concurrent DES advisory in July, and of the lack of desirability of any tax increase
followed. Ultimately a motion NOT to recommend the expansion of GLVD purposes was overwhelmingly passed.
The meeting ended,
however, with a commitment from virtually all members present to contribute voluntarily to the cost of engineering services to prepare
the DES grant application and of the GLA share of any grant funding requirement. Contributions were estimated at about $5000.
